Dear Clinton

I wrote to you some while ago about the possibility of your being in the UK in 2014 and the opportunity that would give us from BELIEF in Bedford to invite you to participate in our Spring series. Planning is well underway and we wondered if you might be in the UK on May 21st or whether we could hook up via video/skype though we recognise that time difference may hinder us for a live sucessful live broadcast.

This is the publicity paragraph for the series
Today Muslims and mosques are very much part of the Bedford ?scene?. But how many Christians and Churches feel confident about meeting, working with or sharing faith with Muslims? Do we need to know something about Islam before we can make even the first approach? Do all Muslims believe the same things? How do they want to see British Society develop In the future? ?Who is my Muslim neighbour ?? Is designed to ask these questions, and to help begin find some of the answers.

This is the plan:

Wednesday, April 30th, 8.00 pm at St Andrews: possible title- ?Exploring Islam? Speaker: Dr Ataullah Siddiqui of the Markfield Institute of Higher Education (Leicestershire) Chair: The Bishop of Bedford .We have asked Ataullah to touch on four themes, as an introduction to the course: Global and political issues between Christians and Muslims; Doctrinal similarities and differences; the varieties of Islamic belief and practice; becoming good neighbours in the local community.
Wednesday, May 7th, 8.00 pm at St Andrews: possible title- ?Exploring [Islam in] Bedford? Speakers: The Ayesha Academy, Bedford, is being asked for this session. Chair: possibilities might be: Ann Brown (Methodist), Stephen Copson (Baptist), Christopher Damp (Congregationalist). To involve young Muslims (and Christians?) in talking about their faith and hopes for society.
Wednesday, May 14th, 8.00 pm at St Andrews: possible title- ?Exploring Inter-Faith Community? A workshop led by Cass Howes and Peter West, with (hopefully), David Dean of the St Philips Centre, Leicester, to ask how clearly we have ?heard? the messages from the first two sessions of the course. Chair: possibly Lonnie Haye, Chaplain at Yarls Wood Immigration Removal Centre (and from the Miracle Church of God in Christ, Bedford).
Wednesday, May 21st, 8.00 pm: possible title- ??? Speaker: Dr Clinton Bennett, if he is free to come to the UK (and work with the St Philips Centre if finding funding is an issue Chair: ask Stephen Copson if the speaker is Clinton Bennett (who is a Baptist minister). Focus on ?A Christian response?. maybe a recognition of the significance and impact of fundamentalism, and how this can be faced.
Wednesday, May 28th, 8.00 pm at St Andrews: possible title- ?Exploring our Future together? Speaker: Emma Loosley (Exeter University) Chair: Mgr. Sean Healey Final session, focussing on a Christian response, and what we will take to Christian Congregations

You will see that the target audience is Christians though we are thinking of asking some Mulsims we know well to attend . The intention then is to have a follow programme next year which will be a dialoque between Muslims and Christians. Maybe you would be more available then and would prefer to be involved in that in 2015.

I think we might need to record the other sessions and end them to you if you can accept our invitaton so you know what has gone before.

I wonder could you respond to the above and let me know what might be possibe. Best wishes Cass Howes
